History
Founded in 2013 by Charlotte Lloyd, Charles of Lloyd upholstery began with the goal of bringing upholstery and design together to offer innovative furniture solutions and keep upholstery relevant well into the future.
Foundation
After a successful career in fashion and brand licensing, Charlotte Lloyd took the bold leap to follow her passion for textiles and upholstery by training to become a fully qualified upholsterer accredited by the Association of Master Upholsterers. Since she opened her own upholstery studio in Leyton, East London, Charlotte has earned a reputation in particular as a mid-century furniture restoration expert, but with expertise across all areas of upholstery.
As a maker, Charlotte's talents extend beyond upholstery; she's also recognised as a prize-winning designer. In 2017, she clinched the Young Furniture Makers design category and secured the prestigious "best in show" title. Her creative prowess has also earned her a place on the 2024 QEST Scholar programme, with the intention of furthering her skills through exclusive training with a master craftsman.
Our Team
Over the years the Charles of Lloyd workshop has grown to be a team effort, made up of upholsterers who share the same design-led upholstery values and who love the variation and creativity that come with working across the commercial, bespoke and domestic sectors.
Each team member is AMUSF trained, with their own creative backgrounds and influences, enabling Charles of Lloyd to guarantee a high level of quality and consistency. Our skilled team work closely with clients, offering expert guidance on suitable fabrics, finishes, and design considerations to bring each project to life.
